Himalayan Monal

Himalaya is one the most visited and attractive destinations of the world. Its snow-kissed masculine mountains and lush green landscapes seems to be the true paradise on earth. These Himalayas are also the highest as well as the longest mountain ranges in the whole world. These ranges are the habitat to one-third of the total mountain animals, that include even some of the most endangered species.

Indian Himalayan region is blessed with rich varieties of flora and fauna. In the Terai region of Himalaya the varieties of flora found are Sal, Teak, rosewood and Sheesham, while astatine high altitudes Deodar, Birch, Fir, Juniper and Rhododendron trees can be seen. The rich diversity of the Indian Himalayan wildlife makes it one of the best place for some of the rarest species of animals and birds.

Wildlife in Himalayas:

Most of the animals are commonly found in the Himalayan alpine and its surrounding ranges. Although there are found several animals, yet Himalayan mountain goats have adapted the harsh mood conditions of Himalaya even above the altitude of 10,000 ft.

Besides Himalayan wildlife provides shelter to the rare species like musk deer, rhinoceros, Tibetan blue bear, Kashmir stag, snow leopard, blue sheep etc. While the most seen birds found in Himalayan regions ar monal pheasant, cuckoos, mynas etc.

Jim Corbett National Park:

Jim Corbett National Park was established in 1936, which is spread over an area of 520 sq km. The park is located at Ramnagar, 63 km south-west of Nainital. It is one of the best national parks of India known for its rich bio diversity. The animals and birds found in the park are:

Animals: Sloth bear, Himalayan black bear, Indian gray mongoose, wild dog, leopards, elephant, deer, monkeys, jungle cats etc.

Birds: Approx 580 species of birds like flycatchers, cuckoos, babblers, robins, parakeets.

The Royal Chitwan Park:

The Royal Chitwan Park was established in 1973. It is the oldest designated national park in Nepal, which was designated as a world heritage site in 1984. The park is spread over a huge area of 93,200 ha. The animals found in the park are one-horned rhinoceros, deer, royal Bengal tiger, leopard, Cheetal, wild dogs, gaur, ghariyal rhesus monkey etc.

Great Himalayan National Park:

Great Himalayan National Park is located in Kullu, whose altitude varies from 1,300 m to 6,100 m. The park is best known for its dazzling alpine meadows, glaciers, and alluring high ridges. The animals and birds found in the park are:

Namdapha National Park:

Namdapha National Park is situated in Changlang district of Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, spread over 1,850 sq km of rugged terrain. The animals and birds found in the park are:

Animals: Clouded leopard, snow leopard, pig tailed macaque, elephant, black bear, Indian bison, hoolock gibbons etc.

Birds: Jungle fowls, great Indian hornbills, pheasants, mynas etc.
