The Melbourne Aquarium is intentional to look like a moored ship. It does non look that big from the outside. That is, until you realise that that the majority of the building lies 20 meters below the surface. At the Melbourne Aquarium, you can enjoy your very own self-guided tour that will take you through four unique levels.
On level one you will discover the creepy caves, billabong, rock pools, and mangroves. On the Ground Floor you will be able to sink or swim with giant crabs and sea dragons, coral atoll, ocean jellies, and Japanese spider crabs. At level B-1 you will be able to see the octopus and there is also a children’s play area at this level. And level B-2 includes shark conservation, the animal nursery, the oceanarium, and the fish bowl.

Melbourne Aquarium: You Can Look and Touch
If you are not quenched with just looking, although in the case of sharks it is probably wise to keep it to just that, you can also touch. There is a rock pool where aquarium staff will let you touch and handle things like starfish and ocean urchins.
Do you have a child that has a birthday coming up? Melbourne aquarium has something for that too. They will allow you to have a birthday party at the aquarium and provide your child’s favourite food and other cool options.
Melbourne Aquarium: Themed Exhibitions
The Melbourne Aquarium is also great for a number of themed exhibitions. They recently did “Creepy Crawlies” about all kinds of bugs, spiders and slimy creatures. Another recent one is “Antartica”. This is a simulation of the coldest place on earth, featuring real ice and snow. You could watch the King and Gentoo penguin slide and play on the ice, or take an expedition through “Antarctica”! The project was a year in construction and open late in 2008. With these new elements the Aquarium guarantees itself the return of many young Melburnians of course. It is not without reason that any time my daughter and I go into the city centre she asks when we go to the Aquarium again and what special exposition is on this time!

They have everything from a full lunch to cup of coffee. You can enjoy your meal while taking in the sights of the Yarra river and Southbank astatine the other side of the water. And if the offer from the Melbourne Aquarium cafe is non to your liking, then I suggest you simply cross the bridge and have a great meal at one of Southbank’s great cafes or restaurants!
If you want to have a fun time in Melbourne with the kids, then the Melbourne Aquarium is definitely a Melbourne tourist attraction you want to go to. We go fairly regularly, at least once a year.
